Today was our first totally full day of homeschooling. In addition to the kids independent work, we started with Illuminations today which included Bible, history, literature, geography, grammar and spelling. We’ll do science on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I’ve been more excited to start this program than any I’ve done in all my 8 homeschooling years. It was just as good as I’d hoped, at least for a first day.

Whenever I start a new curricula, it feels like I’m walking through a whirlpool backwards with my eyes closed and hands full. Totally awkward and off balance. I don’t know what I’m doing or exactly where I’m headed, but I keep moving. That’s how I felt today, but the force was lessened with each subject we completed. I think by tomorrow, I’ll at least have my eyes opened.

And according to my ‘calendar experts,’ we have completed six days of school with just 174 to go. Now if they can just all memorize the months of the year and not steal the coffee stirrer sticks on our cute calendar station, we’ll be making some real progress.
