Dryer Balls replace those fabric softener sheets you throw in the dryer. Instead of using those to reduce static electricity and soften my clothes and towels, I’m using dryer balls. They are sold in sets of two at the big box stores and online. The more you have the better they work, so I bought six. Of course, they are often found wrapped up in pant legs, so I’m forever rounding them up. But isn’t that part of the fun of laundry? Now that balls are involved, maybe it could be considered a sport.
Even though a box of Bounce sheets lasted a while around here, I don’t just love fragrant things. So this was a pleasant alternative to me. I still use an occasional dose of liquid fabric softener, but I get one that’s fragrance free. I’m just funny that way.
I got my dryer balls at Walmart for around $9 for a 2 pack. Although it takes a little bit to recoup the cost (as I have six balls now), it’s well worth it to me. Laundry is never ending at my casa. Now it’s just a little less expensive and a lot more hypoallergenic.
Do you have any great cost-cutting savings for the laundry room? I’d love to hear from you. I’m all over a great idea!

I don't know where you live, but we live in San Diego. Good weather all year long. But to cut dryer cost, we hang up our sweatshirts, and jeans and don't put them in the dryer to dry. That really cuts down our cost. I used to dry them, but because of the fabrics and the bulkiness, I was often running that dryer for 1 1/2 hrs or more! No more!
Love that you shared this, San Diego mom, as my mother-in-law got me an AWESOME new clothes line for my b'day recently. I'm in NM and we've had a last burst of beautiful weather, so I've been hanging blankets and kids towels out to dry. I love to look out and see things on it. I will have to do that on another Frugal Friday. I can't BELIEVE it slipped my mind. (Well, yes, I can!)
You already mentioned you don't like dryer sheets but here's what I do. I get Bounce fragrance free sheets, cut them in half, and use them over and over again until they're spent. One box lasts forever and I don't have to deal with the perfume-y smell. Without it the static electricity in our clothes will light up a dim room!
interesting. I have never heard of those before.
I can envision them bouncing all over my laundry room. : )
We love our dryer balls. We only use two – I didn't know you could/should use more. We have severe allergies in our family so the lower number of chemicals in our home the better.
Thanks for visiting my website today…
Yes, the more dryer balls you use, the better they work. More balls to break up all that static. Just better coverage : ) Maybe you'll get some in your stocking.
