In-hope-of-spring break

in Homeschooling

February is a time for ruts. I was just reading many moms share the exact same experience over at Simple Homeschool. The doldrums of the homeschool journey seem to show up this time of year. Almost every year. My ten years of homeschooling have proven this to be true.

So while I don’t often take an official spring break until Easter, this week is my break, in hopes of spring. While the weather keeps showing little peeks of springtime, I’m hoping signs of spring will come peeking through the winter of my mind, just like the crocus, so surprising and refreshing.

My mom is visiting from out of state this week and was excited to jump into our school routine, while I happily jump out and let her serve as our loving substitute teacher.

It feels good to take a break when one is really needed. And if you can’t do that when you’re homeschooling, then when the heck can you?

What about you? Do you feel the freedom to take a break when you really need it the most?

Do I feel free to take a break? No. Do I do it anyway. Yes! Well, sometimes, but typically only when I really NEED to . I have a set amount of work I want to get done (for my own conscience) for the year and if we take too many breaks that work won’t get done by May and I really, really, like to finish school by May.
You are so blessed to have a mom that will come and stand in as a sub for you. And what wonderful memories for your children. Did your mom homeschool you?
I hope I’ll be allowed to be a sub for my daughter and daughter-in-laws should they choose to homeschool. You’ve given me something to look forward to 😉 (My oldest is only 10 so it’ll be awhile, lol)
I’m visiting from the Blog Walk and while I’m here, I’d like to award you the stylish blogger award. You can check it out here:

Having a substitute teacher for a week sounds heavenly! I have occasionally had my mom help some when visiting, but it’s been more supplemental (like the younger boys reading to her.)

Stopping by your new home as I crawl through the TOS Crew blogs. I love the new blog and just might be taking the plunge away from Blogger to a self hosted domain soon.

It was a wonderful week off! The kids didn’t get everything done we normally might have, but the basics were covered and that was good enough for me. Thanks for stopping by!
